Meet Fracena Byrd

 


Fracena Byrd has built a career making theatre happen.

A graduate of Savannah Arts Academy and Spelman College’s Theatre program, Fracena has worked with some of the biggest names in Georgia theatre, from Kenny Leon to Brenda Porter.

  • The Georgia stage premiere of The True Story of the Three Little Pigs (based on the popular children’s book by Jon Scieszka)
  • Evillene in a production of The Wiz by True Colors Theater, directed by Kenny Leon
  • Smoky Joe’s Cafe at Springer Opera House (the state theatre of Georgia)
  • The Adventures of Little Noodle at the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta
  • Mrs. Bob Cratchet’s Wild Christmas Binge in Essential Theatre’s annual festival of premiere works
  • HAIR at 7 Stages Theatre in Atlanta

Academy Theatre

Fracena directed her first short play with Academy Theatre as part of their original Tapas festival in 2013. Since then, she has appeared in multiple productions including Yellowman by Dael Orlandersmith and Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling. She has co-directed with Lynna Schmidt and Brenda Porter, and in turn she cast them in a production of Agnes of God which she herself directed. She is currently on staff as Associate Artistic Director.

Legacy Theatre

Fracena has been appearing in productions with The Legacy Theatre in Tyrone since 2009. She’s been Sister Mary Hubert in Nunsense and Nuncrackers, Roz Keith in 9 To 5, Matron Mama Morton in Chicago, Mrs. Cory in Mary Poppins, Motormouth Maybelle in Hairspray, Mrs. Phelps in Matilda the Musical, and Rosie in Mama Mia!.
